Tabcorp begins One Pool testing ahead of national launch
The trials will bring Australia’s three main tote pools together.
Australia.- Tabcorp has begun testing its One Pool project, which aims to consolidate Australia’s three main state-based totalisator pools into a single national wagering pool. The first trials are scheduled to begin on September 24 at selected racing meetings, including events at Tamworth in New South Wales and Warwick in Queensland.
The initiative will combine the NSW TAB, SuperTAB and UniTAB pools, allowing customers betting on the same race through the participating pools to receive the same dividend. SuperTAB serves Victoria, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory, while UniTAB covers Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory, with both pools set to join NSW TAB in creating a single national liquidity base.
Tabcorp expects the unified structure to increase liquidity and provide greater price stability, while creating opportunities for new tote products and larger jackpots. One Pool has been spearheaded by Tabcorp chief executive officer Gillon McLachlan and chief wagering officer Michael Fitzsimons.
Testing is expected to expand across thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing, with a full day of domestic trials provisionally planned for September 28. The technology has been co-engineered by Tabcorp’s wagering division and BetMakers, whose technology has already been used for Tabcorp’s international racing pools.
Subject to the outcome of the testing, Tabcorp is tentatively targeting the October 3-4 weekend for the formal One Pool launch.
