SkyCity Auckland to reopen without Covid-19 restrictions

SkyCity’s Auckland casino can now operate without Covid-19 restrictions after the city moved from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 1.

New Zealand.- SkyCity Entertainment Group has announced that its Auckland property can now operate without Covid-19 restrictions on mass gatherings and physical distancing.

The casino was closed during the first days of March after a new case of Covid-19 was identified in Auckland. It then reopened its doors on March 7 following the New Zealand Government’s announcement that the Covid-19 alert level was lowered to level 2 in Auckland.

Now, as Auckland has moved from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 1 of the COVID-19 Alert System, the SkyCity Auckland could operate without restrictions on mass gatherings and physical distancing.

Alert Level 1 assumes that Covid-19 is contained and recommends the wearing of masks and social distancing, rather than mandating them. The change means the lifting of restrictions on gatherings of more than 100 people.

Due to Covid-19 countermeasures and restrictions, SkyCity Entertainment Group reported in February that revenue for the six months to December 31 was down 76 per cent year-on-year to NZ$78.4m (US$56.4m).
