SJM confirms Grand Lisboa Palace will open in first half of 2021
SJM Holdings’ co-chair and executive director has confirmed that Grand Lisboa Palace is close to launch.
Macau.- SJM Holdings’ co-chairman and executive director, Angela Leong On Kei, has told local media the company’s new Cotai integrated resort, Grand Lisboa Palace, remains on course to open in the first half of this year.
Construction on the HKD39bn (US$5bn) project is complete and the Grand Lisboa Palace was undergoing “final inspections” by the Macau government, she said.
The casino was originally due to open in 2017 but has faced multiple delays over the years.
According to investment bank JP Morgan, the gaming facilities at Grand Lisboa Palace could open in one go. However, some hotel space and other non-gaming offers might have a staggered opening.
Grand Lisboa Palace to “redefine travel and leisure”
According to SJM’s promotional blurb, the Grand Lisboa Palace “will redefine travelling and leisure experiences, giving new meaning to what’s already legendary.”
The project boasts around 2,000 hotel rooms split between 3 structures – The Lisboa Palace Hotel, Palazzo Versace Macau, and Karl Lagerfeld Hotel luxury boutique hotel.
It will also offer 27,000 square metres of gaming floor space (290,000 sq ft) with up to 700 gaming tables and 1,200 electronic gaming machines.
