Sands China receives new environmental certification
According to the company, the certification is a first for an integrated tourism and leisure company in the Macao-Hong Kong region
Macau.- Sands China has been awarded ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management System (EMS) certification by the British Standards Institution (BSI) Group. The certification covers all resort properties across Sands China’s portfolio. According to the company, the certification is a first for an integrated tourism and leisure company in the Macao-Hong Kong region.
Released by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in April 2026, ISO 14001:2026 strengthens requirements around environmental management, with a greater focus on climate change, natural resource management, biodiversity, leadership and governance. The update follows the company’s previous ISO 14001:2015 certification significantly ahead of the 2029 transition deadline set by the accreditation body.
Sands China has reported a 61 per cent reduction in its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions compared with its 2018 baseline, surpassing its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated target of a 30 per cent reduction. The company also reduced potable water consumption by 9 per cent in 2025 and achieved a 21 per cent operational waste diversion rate.
The operator has been included in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for the fourth consecutive year, ranking in the Top 1 per cent in both its Global and China editions. It was also named an Industry Mover in the China edition for the second consecutive year
