Sands China names 24 enterprises for Macau community revitalisation project
The operator has selected 11 startup concepts and 13 merchant rebranding plans for its Rua das Estalagens 2026 initiative.
Macau.- Sands China named 24 local businesses selected for its Community Revitalisation Programme for Rua das Estalagens 2026 during an awards ceremony at The Londoner Macao. The initiative, held in collaboration with the Macao Chamber of Commerce, supports local SMEs and aligns with the SAR government’s district renewal strategy.
Out of 69 applications, a cross-sector judging panel chose 11 startup proposals and 13 rebranding plans. The projects span retail, F&B, fashion, photography, and cultural concepts. Under the scheme, startups receive subsidies up to MOP1m (US$124,700), while rebranding applicants can secure up to MOP500,000 (US$62,300). To reduce initial financial pressures, Sands China will provide 60 per cent of total funding upfront as start-up capital.
Dr. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China Ltd., stated: “The key to revitalising historic districts lies in fostering a harmonious blend of cultural heritage and modern vitality. Through the programme, we aim to encourage entrepreneurs to bring innovative concepts to historic districts, while supporting long-established local businesses in upgrading their operations.”
Chan Chou Weng, representing the Secretary for Economy and Finance and acting director of DSEDT, praised the enterprise for “providing concrete support for SMEs to enhance their capabilities, and injecting sustainable momentum into the local economy.”
