Sands China hosts job interviews ahead of Macau satellite casino closures
Macau’s gaming operators have pledged to reassign local workers.
Macau.- Sands China has announced job interviews for workers affected by the upcoming closure of Macau’s 11 satellite casinos by the end of the year. It’s offering job opportunities within its Sands Rewards programme and will host two interview sessions at Sands Macao today (Tuesday) and tomorrow.
The news follows a directive from Macau’s chief executive, Sam Hou Fai, who has said that the government will ensure gaming concessionaires reassign local workers. Of the 5,600 local employees impacted, 4,800 are directly employed by the city’s three gaming concessionaires, SJM Holdings, Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, and Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd, while 800 work for satellite-venue owners. An additional 400 non-resident workers are also employed in these venues.
SJM Holdings, which operates nine of the 11 satellite casinos, along with Galaxy Entertainment and Melco Resorts, each responsible for one, have pledged to reassign their satellite workers to other properties in Macau. Both SJM and Galaxy are also holding job-matching sessions this week.
Chief executive Sam Hou Fai has reiterated that employment stability for Macau residents is a priority. He noted that the closures will have a limited impact on the local GDP.
