Queen’s Wharf Brisbane on track for 2022 opening

Work at the site remains on schedule despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Australia.- Local authorities have visited the construction site of the Queen’s Wharf integrated resort in Brisbane and declared the project on track to open as scheduled in late 2022.

Authorities expect that the complex will receive 1.4 million visitors a year. The project is expected to create 2,000 jobs at the peak of construction and 8,000 jobs once it is fully operational.

Currently, the entrance to The Star Grand Hotel and podiums levels are under construction. The Star Entertainment Group, the operator for the entertainment and residences complex, said construction resumed once Covid-19 restrictions were eased and that 600 workers were now working on the project.

Group CEO Matt Bekier, visited the site of the AU$3.6bn (US$2.66 billion) project on Tuesday.

He said: “We remain on target to open in late 2022 and fully committed to delivering what will be the best integrated resort in Australia.

“While domestic tourism will be the focus in the immediate future for Australian operators, we will emerge from the Covid-19 crisis and the international borders will reopen.”

The Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development is a Destination Brisbane Consortium project, a joint venture led by The Star Entertainment Group and its Hong Kong-based partners, Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium.

It will include four luxury hotels, 50 new bars and restaurants, a retail area, up to 2,000 residential apartments and the equivalent of 12 football fields of public space. It is expected to host 2,500 slots machines.
