PAGCOR to support Philippine school-building programme
The Philippine gaming regulator has signed agreements with 66 local government units.
The Philippines.- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) will work with the Department of Education (DepEd) and 66 local government units (LGUs) to advance a nationwide programme aimed at building additional classrooms across the Philippines. The agreements were formalised today during a ceremonial memorandum of agreement signing at PAGCOR’s corporate office in Pasay City, attended by PAGCOR chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco, Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara and representatives from the participating LGUs.
The programme will build three-storey school buildings each with 12 classrooms equipped with chairs, tables, electric fans and facilities designed to accommodate persons with disabilities. The buildings will also include 75-inch smart TVs, amplifiers and microphones, as well as a one-year free internet subscription.
The agency hopes to complete the buildings by 2027 or 2028, particularly in communities facing the most pressing need for additional classrooms. “Through these classrooms, we hope to give the younger generation a better learning environment, a chance to discover what they are truly capable of, and a chance to build a brighter future,” Tengco said.
The school-building programme follows PAGCOR’s allocation of an initial PHP 1.37bn (US$22.8m) in March 2026 for the construction of 25 public school buildings nationwide.
