Ban on online gambling in Mongolia confirmed
Parliament has made final approval of legislative amendments.
Mongolia.- A ban on all forms of online gambling and paid predictions in Mongolia has come into effect. The State Great Khural gave final approval to amendments to the Law on Licensing and related legislation passed on March 26.
The legislation makes running gambling or paid prediction games for profit either in public places or online a criminal offence. Penalties include fines from 2,700 to 14,000 basic units, 240 to 720 hours of community service, travel restrictions of up to one year, or prison sentences ranging from six months to three years.
Repeat offences involving payment accounts, e-money, virtual assets, phone numbers, or electronic IDs under one’s own or another person’s name, can lead to further fines of 450 to 5,400 basic units and up to one year in prison.
There are fines for illegal advertising under administrative law. Tax provisions such as excise taxes on gaming equipment and certain clauses in corporate, personal income, and SME support laws, have been repealed.
