MGM will take part in a RFP process in Osaka
It was the first city to reveal its plan in the Japanese race for an Integrated Resort
Japan.- MGM Resorts International and Orix group will submit a proposal to have a casino in Osaka. The operator confirmed to GGRAsia that it will take part in the request for proposal (RFP) process.
The details of the request will be kept secret due to the “confidentiality agreement we have with the city and prefecture of Osaka”, according to a spokesperson from MGM Resorts Japan LLC.
Osaka was the first city to reveal its plan in the Japanese race for an Integrated Resort. The local government published last week the conditions for the interested operators for the project in Yumeshima.
Osaka prefecture and city announced their implementation policy draft on Thursday, stipulating the conditions required of operators for an IR in Yumeshima and outlining plans to launch its RFP by December.
Japan’s national government also revealed earlier this week that it would accept IR certification applications in early 2021.
MGM is not the first company to confirmed its submission in Osaka. Last Friday, Galaxy announced its interest in some cities. “We respond to eight cities and prefectures for requests for information or requests for concepts including most recently in Osaka”. The other interested company to construct a casino in one of the biggest cities of Japan is Genting Singapore.
It is known that Japan won’t accept IR certification applications until January 2021 and the three locations will be decided at the end of the year, but the race has just started.
