Macau visitor arrivals up 9% in first half of 2026
Visitor arrivals reached 20.9 million in the January-June period.
Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that the number of visitor arrivals in Macau increased by 9 per cent year-on-year to 20,944,446 in the first half of 2026. Same-day visitors (12,889,844) and overnight visitors (8,054,602) rose by 15.3 per cent and 0.2 per cent, respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day to 1.0 day, with that of overnight visitors (2.3 days) unchanged.
Visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 11 per cent year-on-year to 15,286,203, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (8,417,542) up by 13.6 per cent. Visitors from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (3,659,900) and the Taiwan region (575,895) rose by 0.3 per cent and 24.7 per cent, respectively.
International visitors totalled 1,422,448, up by 6 per cent year-on-year. Among Southeast Asian markets, visitors from Thailand (122,494) rose by 51.4 per cent year-on-year, while those from the Philippines (270,441) decreased by 1.2 per cent. Elsewhere, visitors from India (65,542) and those from the Republic of Korea (284,258) grew by 12.4 per cent and 0.7 per cent year-on-year, respectively. Visitors from the USA (82,121) increased by 7.4 per cent year-on-year.
In June 2026, the number of visitor arrivals was down by 3.1 per cent year-on-year to 2,801,152. Same-day visitors (1,637,260) grew by 1.6 per cent while overnight visitors (1,163,892) decreased by 9 per cent. The average length of stay shortened by 0.1 day to 1.1 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.4 days) remaining unchanged.
The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) reported that Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) was MOP18.52bn (US$2.8bn) in June. Cumulatively, GGR for the first half of 2026 was MOP126.9bn (US$15.72bn), up 6.8 per cent year-on-year but 15.1 per cent below pre-pandemic levels in 2019, when GGR totalled MOP149.5bn (US$18.5bn).
