Macau visitor arrivals up 3.4% in May
Visitor arrivals reached 3.48 million, according to the Statistics and Census Service.
Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that the number of visitor arrivals to Macau in May increased by 3.4 per cent year-on-year to 3,487,994. Same-day visitors (2,149,311) rose by 7.9 per cent year-on-year, while overnight visitors (1,338,683) dropped by 3 per cent.
The average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day to 1 day, while that of overnight visitors (2.3 days) remained unchanged.
As regards the source of visitors, DSEC reported that visitors from the Chinese mainland increased by 4.2 per cent year-on-year to 2,541,802 in May, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (1,377,014) rising by 5.2 per cent. Visitors from the Taiwan region (93,701) rose by 18.9 per cent year-on-year, while those from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (618,341) dropped by 0.4 per cent.
International visitors totalled 234,150 in May, up by 0.8 per cent year-on-year. Among Southeast Asian markets, visitors from Thailand (20,447) were up by 36.1 per cent year-on-year, while those from the Philippines (50,462) and Indonesia (14,595) dropped by 11.5 per cent and 9.6 per cent respectively. Visitors from India (15,293) grew by 3.5 per cent year-on-year, those from the Republic of Korea (35,663) decreased by 14.6 per cent, and visitors from the USA (12,426) increased by 10.5 per cent year-on-year.
The Public Security Police Force has reported that the cumulative number of visitor arrivals to Macau in 2026 surpassed 20 million on June 20. The milestone was achieved 18 days earlier than in 2025.
The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) reported that Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) was MOP22.61bn (US$2.8bn) in May, up 6.7 per cent in year-on-year terms and 13.7 per cent compared to April. Cumulatively, Macau’s GGR for the five months of 2026 was MOP108.38bn (US$13.44bn).
