Macau reports vaccination rate of over 80%
Authorities in Macau have reported that more than 80 per cent of the territory’s population have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Macau.- Macau has confirmed that 80.2 per cent of the population has received at least one dose of a vaccine against Covid-19. Some 496,404 people have received two or more doses and 51,966 just one, according to the city’s Novel Coronavirus Response Coordination Center.
Macau casino operators launched various campaigns to increase vaccination rates among their employees by offering special paid leave and other benefits.
Galaxy Entertainment Group has allowed one day of Family Vaccine Leave per elegible family member for employees who need to accompany their children under 18 or parents aged 70. Its programme will run until June 30. GEG said nearly 95 per cent of its team members have been vaccinated.
Last December, Ho Iat Seng, Macau’s chief executive said that once the city achieved an 80 per cent vaccination rate, it would be easier to negotiate a travel bubble with other regions.
However, Hong Kong has recorded a new rise in Covid-19 cases despite efforts to achieve a zero-coronavirus policy. The country may delay mass testing for Covid-19 to focus on reducing deaths and caring for the elderly.
