Macau hotel room rates remain steady
Average five-star room rates held firm in May despite a slight decline in occupancy.
Macau.- Average room rates at five-star hotels in Macau remained unchanged year-on-year in May despite a modest decline in occupancy levels. According to data compiled by the Macau Hotel Association and published by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the average rate was MOP1,555.7 (US$192.6). Occupancy was down by 2.4 percentage points at 92.3 per cent.
The survey showed softer pricing trends in other accommodation categories. Average room rates at four-star hotels fell 2.7 per cent year-on-year to MOP1,117.4, and that of three-star properties declined by 6.7 per cent to MOP891.8.
For the January to May period, five-star hotels had an average room rate of MOP1,534.3 (US$189.9) and occupancy of 94.3 per cent, with the room rate unchanged and occupancy down 0.2 percentage points year-on-year. Room rates remain below pre-pandemic levels.
The survey collected data from 49 association-member hotels, 28 of which are five-star properties. Most are at casino resort complexes. The remaining members, in either the four-star or three-star category, include some hotels at casino resorts.
The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) reported that the number of visitor arrivals to Macau in May increased by 3.4 per cent year-on-year to 3,487,994. Same-day visitors (2,149,311) rose by 7.9 per cent year-on-year, while overnight visitors (1,338,683) dropped by 3 per cent.
The Public Security Police Force has reported that the cumulative number of visitor arrivals to Macau in 2026 surpassed 20 million on June 20, 18 days earlier than in 2025.
