Macau hotel occupancy drops in June, Macau Hotel Association says
The average occupancy rate of Macau’s five-star hotels was down 4.6 percentage points from a year earlier.
Macau.- Macau’s hotel sector saw occupancy rates and average room prices decline across several categories in June. According to data released by the Macau Hotel Association through the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the average occupancy rate among member hotels was 88.5 per cent, down from 90.9 per cent in the same month of 2025.
The survey covered 49 member properties, including 28 five-star hotels, many of which are located within Macau’s integrated resort complexes. Five-star hotels saw an average occupancy rate of 89.6 per cent, representing a decline of 4.6 percentage points year-on-year. The average nightly rate in the segment fell 1.8 per cent to MOP1,443.6 (US$178.7).
Meanwhile, four-star hotels recorded an average room rate of MOP1,011.1 (US$125.2), down 5.1 per cent, while average rates at three-star properties declined 4.9 per cent to MOP855.2 (US$106). The Macau Hotel Association did not disclose occupancy figures for the lower-rated categories.
For the first six months of 2026, five-star hotels reported an average occupancy rate of 93.6 per cent, down 0.9 percentage points. Average room rates were broadly stable at MOP1,519.2 (US$188.1), compared with MOP1,523.7 a year earlier.
The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) reported that the number of visitor arrivals in Macau was down by 3.1 per cent year-on-year to 2,801,152 in June. Same-day visitors (1,637,260) grew by 1.6 per cent while overnight visitors (1,163,892) decreased by 9 per cent. The average length of stay shortened by 0.1 day to 1.1 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.4 days) remaining unchanged.
