Macau.- The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has reported that the average hotel occupancy rate in Macau was 93.9 per cent in August. That’s a rise of 0.8 percentage points year-on-year, despite a decline in the number of guests. The rates for 4-star (94.4 per cent) and 3-star hotels (91.1 per cent) rose by 5.4 and 1.2 percentage points, respectively, while the rate for 5-star hotels (95.1 per cent) fell by 0.5 percentage points.

The number of guests was down by 2.6 per cent year-on-year to 1,270,000. Those from the Chinese mainland (978,000) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (136,000) decreased by 1.3 per cent and 11 per cent respectively. The number of international guests (86,000) dropped by 2.9 per cent year-on-year. Those from the Republic of Korea (27,000) fell by 3.6 per cent, while those from the USA (5,000) rose by 31.5 per cent.

The number of inbound package tour visitors totalled 178,000, up by 14.4 per cent year-on-year. Tour visitors from the Chinese mainland rose by 25 per cent year-on-year to 164,000.

The number of visitor arrivals in Macau increased by 6.1 per cent year-on-year to 4,478,073 in August 2026. Same-day visitors (2,853,011) rose by 11.7 per cent year-on-year while overnight visitors (1,625,062) decreased by 2.4 per cent. The average length of stay shortened by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.0 day.

The DSEC reported that in the first eight months of 2026, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments was 91 per cent, up by 1.1 percentage points year-on-year. The number of guests decreased by 1.6 per cent year-on-year to 9,640,000, with international guests (838,000) up by 10.4 per cent. A total of 1,169,000 inbound package tour visitors were recorded in the first eight months, down by 8.2 per cent year-on-year.
