Macau GDP rises 3.7% in H1 as visitor growth supports economy

Preliminary figures show the city’s economy continued to expand in the first half of 2026, although second-quarter growth slowed significantly.

Macau.- The economy of Macau measured in gross domestic product grew by 3.7 per cent year-on-year in real terms during the first half of 2026, reaching MOP209.89bn (US$26bn). That’s according to preliminary figures released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). Growth was driven primarily by exports of services, which rose 7.2 per cent year-on-year, supported by a 9.0 per cent increase in visitor arrivals. Service exports include gaming and tourism-related spending, which remain the main pillars of Macau’s economy.

Domestic demand was more mixed. Private consumption expenditure increased 2.8 per cent, while government final consumption expenditure was down 0.2 per cent and gross fixed capital formation, a measure of investment, down 9.4 per cent.

However, Q2 GDP totalled MOP102.33bn (US$12.7bn), representing year-on-year real growth of just 0.3 per cent, while overall economic output reached 87.9 per cent of its pre-pandemic level.
