Macau expects 20,000 daily visitors for Chinese New Year
Authorities in Macau are confident the city could receive nearly 20,000 daily visitors over the Chinese New Year holidays due to the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in Zhuhai.
Macau.- A representative of the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has told local media he expects Macau to receive 20,000 daily visitors during the Chinese New Year Golden Week.
Authorities in Zhuhai have eased Covid-19 testing requirements for those wishing to travel to Macau from mainland cities, which could help tourist numbers. Since January 29, people intending to transit through Zhuhai need to hold a negative nucleic acid test certificate for Covid-19 issued within 48 hours. The previous requirement was 24 hours.
However, Macao Government Tourism Office director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes previously told Chinese Radio Ou Mun Tin Toi that authorities expected 40,000 visitors daily. This year the Chinese New Year period will be between February 1 and February 3. In 2021, the city welcomed a total of 90,615 visitors, with a daily average number of 12,945 tourists.
