Macau casinos shut for two weeks
Nightclubs, cinemas, arcade venues and other places of entertainment will also close for 14 days at the Coronavirus worsens.
Macau.- Macau will close all 41 of its casinos from tonight (Tuesday) for a period of two weeks in a bid to prevent the outbreak of Coronavirus from spreading further.
Macau confirmed tits decision after two new cases of the virus were confirmed this week.
The shut down was announced today by Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng during a press conference and following a crisis meeting between authorities and casino industry leaders.
“The gaming concessionaires promised they would not force staff to take unpaid leave. They will continue with their corporate social responsibility,” said Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lei Wei Long, said at a second press conference.
Mr Lei also said that nightclubs, cinemas, arcade venues and other places of entertainment would also close for a two-week period, according to GGRAsia.
Today, all ferry services between Hong Kong and Macau have been suspended indefinitely.
