Lottery sales in China down 4.6% in November

Chinese lottery sales in November were down 4.6 per cent year-on-year and down 22 per cent when compared to pre-pandemic levels.

China.- China’s Ministry of Finance has reported that lottery sales for November declined from CNY37.77bn to CNY36.04bn (US$5.58bn).

The figure was down 4.6 per cent when compared to November 2020 and down 22 per cent when compared to November 2019.

Welfare Lottery sales were CNY15.02bn, down 10.1 per cent year-on-year.

Sales of instant win games hit CNY1.6bn in revenue, up 21.3 per cent, and keno games reached CNY2.36bn while video lottery sales plummeted 80 per cent to CNY1,600. 

Sports lottery sales were CNY21.03bn, down 0.2 per cent but digital sales were up 10.3 per cent to CNY9.8bn.

The lottery also reported instant games brought in CNY1.57bn, up 1.2 per cent while customers at keno spent CNY3.4m in November.

Like previous months, most of the Welfare Lottery and Sports Lottery sales came from Guangdong, Xinjiang and Guizhou.

During the first eleven months of the year 2021, lottery sales accounted for a total of CNY297.44bn, down 22.0 per cent when compared to pre-pandemic levels.

CNY129.22bn of total sales came from the Welfare Lottery while Sports Lottery agencies reported sales of CNY168.22bn, down 25.1 per cent and 19.4 per cent respectively.

Throughout 2020, Video lottery sales were most affected by the pandemic and the closure of betting outlets at the beginning of the year. Sales plummeted by 84.8 per cent year-on-year to just CNY679.3m (US$104.8m) in 2020.
