Jeju WanLi Casino reported to be suspending operations
The operator cited worsening management conditions in an employee notice but has not publicly explained the circumstances behind the decision.
South Korea.- Jeju WanLi Casino, a foreigner-only gaming venue on South Korea’s Jeju Island, will reportedly suspend operations from October 31 following a deterioration in business conditions. According to local newspaper Jemin Ilbo, the casino’s operating company, Gil Sang Chang Hui LLC, notified employees of the temporary closure on October 26, stating that operations would cease on October 30. The suspension is expected to last about four months, potentially until March 2027, although a reopening date has not been confirmed.
Located at the Sheraton Jeju Hotel in Jeju City, the casino began its soft launch just last month on September 2. In the notice to employees, the company reportedly cited worsening management conditions but it has reportedly not publicly detailed the circumstances behind the decision.
Workers with less than three months of service are scheduled to have their contracts terminated on October 31. Those with at least three months of service will be consulted individually about recommended resignations.
There have been rumours about a potential transfer of operating rights. It’s been suggested that an outside company may have been preparing to recruit and train dealers in anticipation of changes to operating arrangements. A representative reportedly said they were unaware of any such discussions.
