Jeju casino union seeks probe into AML risks and worker safety
The Dream Tower Casino union wants police and local authorities to review casino controls and workplace protections across Jeju.
South Korea.- The Dream Tower Casino union has called on South Korean authorities to launch a joint review of foreign-only casinos in Jeju focusing on potential money laundering risks and the safety of frontline employees. It raised safety concerns for frontline staff after workers reported instances of verbal abuse and threats, prompting demands for stronger emergency response protocols.
The union has urged the Jeju Provincial Police Agency to conduct investigations into illegal currency transactions and called on the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province to inspect anti-money laundering systems. It also requested that casino management implement practical safety protocols to protect workers from harassment, while asking local authorities and diplomatic channels to support broader crime prevention efforts.
The union said it has reached out to the Chinese Consulate General in Jeju to discuss crime prevention and request a formal meeting regarding Chinese nationals visiting local casinos. While acknowledging that the consulate is not an investigative authority, the union stated that Chinese diplomatic representatives can play an important role in encouraging visitors to abide by domestic laws and fostering safe tourism standards. It said it has not yet received a response.
