South Korea.- Jeju authorities have launched a week-long inspection campaign at seven foreigner-only casinos as the island prepares for a surge in visitors during China’s Golden Week. The inspections, running from October 1 to October 7, will focus on four casinos in Jeju City and three in Seogwipo following recent cases involving illegal currency exchanges near casinos.
Two-person inspection teams are conducting on-site checks at each venue in a bid to ensure casinos verify visitor identities at entrances and properly maintain CCTV security footage. Under local regulations, casinos must record all customer entry points, and money-to-chip exchanges.
Between January and August this year, over 1.86 million Chinese tourists visited Jeju.
“Transparency and integrity are the top priorities for the casino industry,” said Hwang Kyeong-seon, director of Jeju’s Tourism and Exchange Bureau. “We will strengthen on-site supervision during the holiday to prevent crime, ensure compliance with business rules, and quickly address any issues raised by visitors.”
