J-League to resume on July 4
Japan’s premier football league, the J-League, will resume on July 4 after four months without action due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Japan.- Japan’s premier football league, the J-League, will resume on July 4 after four months without action due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Only one game of the season was played in February before Japanese authorities prevented live sporting events from being played before a state of emergency order was implemented across the country.
Games in the J-League will be played without fans, similar to the setup imposed in South Korea’s K League and Germany’s Bundesliga.
Vissel Kobe and Spanish World Cup winning midfielder, Andres Iniesta, said: “I’m happy to hear we are resuming. These are peculiar circumstances, but I’m happy to be able to play games.”
The league is expected to conduct polymerase chain reaction or PCR tests on all players before the restart and plans to re-test them on two-week intervals.
