India: police bust illegal gambling ring

Authorities in the city of Chilavannoor, Kochi, have arrested one man after a raid on an illegal gambling ring that was operating in a flat.

India.- Officers in India have busted an illegal gambling operation at a flat in Chilavannoor, in the state of Kerala. The alleged leader was arrested during the raid. Police also seized several plastic coins with different denominations and playing cards.

According to New Indian Express, police detected the illegal gambling centre while they were investigating a case linked to narcotics.

A few weeks ago, Focus Gaming News reported that police had made two arrests after busting an illegal cricket betting racket that was taking bets through a website. According to the Deccan Herald, the police seized cash debit cards, mobile phones and cheque books from various banks. 

One of the men arrested had previously been accused of involvement in two gambling cases in 2019. He was under police watch in Hyderabad but moved to Warangal.

In August, a New Delhi police officer was dismissed for being involved in an organised illegal cricket betting operationAmit Kumar was also accused of being associated with criminals and rioters and of organising illegal gambling events.
