Imperial Pacific announces temporary casino closure

Operator closes the doors to its casino on the island of Saipan due to Coronavirus.

Northern Mariana Islands.-  Imperial Pacific International, which operates the only casino on the island of Saipan, has announced it will close the doors to the property due to Coronavirus.

According to Asian Gaming Brief, the casino will be shut until further notice to support the public effort to control the deadly virus.

Prior to announcing the closure, the company reduced work hours for staff at its Imperial Palace Resort by 30% due to the “impact on travel demands throughout all of Asia” from the Coronavirus outbreak.

Last week, the casino developer warned that it expects net losses to increase for the full year of 2019.

The company reported a net loss of HKD2.97 billion (€336million) for FY18, compared to a profit of HKD637.5 million (€72million) in 2017.

“The expected increase in net loss is mainly attributable to the considerable decrease in total revenue and gross profit and the impairment of trade receivables,” the Hong Kong-based firm said in a statement.
