Australia.- Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has confirmed changes to its racing calendar that will see Gosford take over city-class racing following the closure of Wentworth Park on October 16. The move aims to maintain racing opportunities for participants while increasing prize money across New South Wales.

Gosford will host its first Saturday city-class meeting on October 24, following upgrades to meet Minimum Track Standards. The venue will conduct three meetings a week: city-class racing on Saturdays, provincial racing on Thursdays and country-class racing on Tuesdays.

Under the revised schedule, Saturday city-class prize money will increase by AU$15,000 to AU$115,000 per meeting through September 2027. GRNSW will also redistribute AU$30,000 per week to provincial racing following a consultation with trainers on how to allocate prize money previously associated with Thursday night Provincial Plus meetings.

The additional funding will be directed to races over 421 metres, with an estimated increase of AU$500 per race. GRNSW currently conducts approximately 60 provincial races per week in this category.

GRNSW chief executive Steve Griffin said the organisation had taken industry feedback into account before deciding how to distribute the additional funding.

He said: “We listened and decided it would be best to ask the broader participant base what they felt would be most beneficial for the NSW industry and the results of the survey were very decisive that the additional prize money being reallocated from Thursday night Provincial Plus racing be spread right across NSW for all to take advantage of.”
