Goa police arrest 18 over alleged cricket betting at Calangute hotel

India.- Police in Goa have arrested 18 people for allegedly operating online cricket betting in Calangute. A late-night raid was carried out on Monday, June 29, at a hotel on Baga Road in the Khobravaddo area after Calangute Police received information about suspected illegal betting.

Officers led by Police Inspector Laxi Amonkar and Superintendent of Police Vishwesh Karpe detained the suspects and seized mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices. The 18 accused were presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Mapusa yesterday (Tuesday) and remanded to six days in police custody while the investigation continues.

Police said the investigation aims to determine the full extent of the alleged operation and whether it was connected to other illegal betting networks.
