Goa Crime Branch arrests four in online cricket betting raid in Mapusa

India.- The Goa Crime Branch has arrested four individuals for allegedly running illegal online cricket betting during a Sri Lanka Tri-Nation A Series match between India A and Sri Lanka A. Acting on intelligence received on Sunday, June 21, officers carried out an operation at a villa in Ekta Nagar, Mapusa.

During the raid, the team detained the four suspects and seized electronic equipment allegedly used in the operation, including two laptops, eight mobile phones, a router and other devices, with an estimated total value of about Rs 2 lakh (US$2,111).

The accused have been identified as Umashankar Joshi (42), Anvesh Soni (30), Faijan Shaikh (22), and Rahul Khot (25). Police said they are from Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. The case has been registered under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976, and Section 66C of the Information Technology Act, 2000. All four accused remain in custody as investigations continue.
