Goa calls for stricter casino entry controls to keep minors out
The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has urged the government to introduce mandatory ID checks at casino entrances.
India.- The Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSPCR) has urged the state government to take steps to stop minors from entering offshore casino vessels and premises. It’s calling for a broader restriction to ban minors from entering casino premises altogether rather than only from gaming areas.
It also wants mandatory age verification at all entrances using government-issued identification documents and wants operators to display clear signs stating that entry for children under 18 is prohibited. It says police and licensing authorities should conduct regular inspections and that operators allowing minors to enter should face the possible suspension or cancellation of their licences.
The call follows a July 17 notification from the Home Department that prohibits people under 21 from entering designated gaming areas in casinos. The new rules define these areas as specific, access-controlled sections of casino vessels or five-star hotels where gaming takes place. However, there have been complaints about minors allegedly being allowed onto offshore casino vessels.
