Sri Lanka blocks 98 more betting sites
Some 122 gambling sites have been subject to blocking orders in less than a week.
Sri Lanka.- Blocking orders have ben issued against another 98 betting websites in Sri Lanka just days after authorities restricted access to 24 major international operators. The Ministry of Digital Economy said the newly blocked websites were operating without local licences, which is says are required under the Gambling Regulatory Authority Act, No. 17 of 2025.
The newly blocked platforms reportedly include more major international brands. All telecommunications service providers have been instructed to implement the blocking order immediately. However, authorities acknowledged that some users may still be able to access the websites through VPN services. The ministry reiterated that using unauthorised gambling websites is illegal.
The latest action brings the total number of blocked gambling websites to 122, reinforcing Sri Lanka’s efforts to strengthen oversight of the regulated online gambling market.
