Encore Boston Harbor’s dominance slows down

Encore Boston Harbor registered US$45.8 million in gross gaming revenue in October, but it’s the lowest figure since its opening.

US.- The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has released the financial figures from October, showing that Encore Boston Harbor once again dominated the gambling scene in the state. However, the casino posted its lowest figure since opening in late June.

Encore Boston Harbor registered US$45.8 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR), which is US$5 million less than the previous month. Table games accounted for US$22.5 million in GGR, down from the US$27 million in September. Slots generated US$22.2 million in GGR in October, approximately US$500k more than in September.

In the third quarter of the year, the casino generated US$114.9 million in operating revenues. Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox said that each quarter they will tweak their marketing, focus on growing their database, work on controlling expenses and increase revenues. “So I am very excited about the transition that we’ve been through and the future of this company as we move forward into 2020,” he added.

MGM Springfield generated US$21.9 million in GGR in October, while Plainridge Park Casino posted US$11.2 million. These numbers position Encore Boston Harbor as the leading facility in the state.

The three casinos sent US$22.2 million to Massachusetts in terms of taxes, and the local commission said that since they opened, the state has collected US$480 million in total taxes.

Encore Boston Harbor’s president stepped down

Last month, the resort’s president Robert DeSalvio announced his decision to step down from the company. The move came just five months after the facility opened its doors. Brian Gullbrants was named president.

“Bob DeSalvio’s ability to partner with community leaders and elected officials, assemble a world-class team and lead them to produce and launch a project of the highest quality is remarkable,” Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox said in a statement provided by the company.
