Cambodia: Donaco casino closes due to Covid-19 restrictions
Donaco’s Star Vegas casino has temporarily closed its doors along with other casinos in Poipet amid new Covid-19 countermeasures.
Cambodia.- As Covid-19 cases continue to rise, the government in Cambodia has announced new countermeasures in the most affected cities.
Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh has extended its curfew until May 5, and now authorities in Banteay Meanchey Province have made a similar decision in Poipet.
Donaco Star Vegas Hotel and other casinos in the area have been ordered to temporarily close until further notice.
According to local media, the decision was taken after an outbreak of Covid-19 cases among casino players.
In a press release, Donaco stated: “the company will monitor developments and advise the market once there is a further update.”
Donaco closed the Star Vegas Hotel doors for the first time last March when Thailand closed its border with Cambodia for two weeks.
Cambodia’s casino industry is largely dependant on international travel. Revenue from the sector plummeted to US$40m (£28.9m) in 2020 due to the lack of tourists.
