Cambodia: 36 arrested for illegal online gambling

36 Vietnamese citizens were arrested and deported after police found they were involved in illegal online gambling activities.

Cambodia.- Police in Kampot province have arrested and deported 36 Vietnamese citizens accused of involvement in illegal gambling activities. Officers raided a rental house in Kraing Ampil commune, which they said had been used as a base to offer online gambling since January 1.

Police are said to have deported those arrested by truck to Vietnam via the Prek Chak International Border Checkpoint.

Last November, authorities blocked 79 websites for offering illegal online gambling services. The regulator stated it will continue working with the General Commissariat of National Police of the Ministry of the Interior to tackle illegal gambling sites.

Cambodia is still “graylisted” by the FATF, although the body has said that Cambodian authorities have recognised problems related to new casinos and other commercial enterprises in Sihanoukville, where most of the casinos are located.
