Authorities in Goa defer Delta Corp plans to develop an IR in Pernem
Pernem MLA and deputy chief minister Manohar Ajgaonkar objected to Delta Corp’s project to develop an IR arguing he doesn’t want casinos in his constituency.
India.- Delta Corp plans to develop an Integrated Resort in Pernem, Goa, will have to wait as authorities deferred the decision to set up an investment promotion area in Dhargalim, Goa.
According to the Times of India, it was due to an objection made by Manohar Ajgaonkar, Pernem MLA and deputy chief minister, who argued he is against casinos in his constituency.
Delta Corp had submitted an application for the establishment of an integrated resort in Dhargalim, Pernem in December 2019, which included requesting the Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Commission to notify the area as an investment promotion zone.
The board of directors approved the project in principle in October 2020, and proposed the establishment of an investment promotion zone on September 1, 2021.
The government also gave one month for objections to the proposal to be submitted to the director of industries, trade and commerce (DITC).
On December 15, 2021, the DITC received an objection from a group under the banner of Calangute Constituency Forum, saying that the approval of the project in principle is not in the interest of the Pernem people.
