Arkansas rejects casino proposal
Arkansas has once again denied residents the right to participate in gaming.
US.- A casino industry was a possibility in Arkansas State to fund government programs such as the construction and maintenance of highways. However, Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has once again rejected the proposal, arguing that gaming is damaging for society due to its risk of problem gambling.
The proposal put forward four gaming salons in the State – in Benton, Boone, Miller and Pulaski – in order to boost the government’s revenue and further investment in improving the region’s lifestyle. The official statement issued last Tuesday reveals that “the Republican attorney general declined to certify a popular name and ballot title for a proposed constitutional amendment for the Arkansas Wins in 2018 Inc. ballot committee.”
Last month, the Arkansas Supreme Court rejected an effort to force Attorney General Leslie Rutledge to approve and certify the ballot title that would allow a public vote on expanded gambling. The Driving Arkansas Forward group wanted to introduce a proposal in the November ballot that would legalise gambling in Jefferson and Pope counties, while also allowing casinos at the Oaklawn horse track in Hot Springs and at the Southland greyhound track in West Memphis.
However, the group’s efforts have been defeated once again this week as the Attorney General has managed to keep casino industry out of Arkansas.
