The lottery has reported sales of $1.4bn for the fiscal year ending June 30.

US.- The Arizona Lottery has set a new sales record for its last fiscal year ending June 30, reporting sales of With $1.4bn, a 30 per cent increase year-on-year. Close to $978m went to prizes and more than $98m to retailer commissions. Scratchers game sales dominated, generating more than $1bn. The lottery celebrated its 40th anniversary this year.

Arizona Lottery spokesman John Gilliland told KTAR News 92.3 FM “It’s a heck of a birthday present. The money that people spend on lottery tickets does a lot of good across the state.”

The Arizona Lottery’s annual report showed funding for the state’s general fund ($195.2m), the university bond fund ($37.9m) and the healthy Arizona fund ($22.2m), which is administered by the Arizona Department of Health Services.

State law dictates how lottery sales directly fund agencies and programmes.
