Argentina advances with online gambling domain name

State lotteries have welcomed the approval of the .bet.ar domain name to unify authorised online gambling sites in Argentina.

Argentina.- The Argentine State Lottery Association, ALEA, will seek to expand the use of the bet.ar domain name for authorised online gambling sites in the country.

The generic domain name was created in Resolution 42/2019 and Provision 68/2019, which have been approved by the country’s Legal and Technical Secretariat through the National Directorate of Internet Domain Registry.

Anyone interested in creating a domain for offering online gaming must submit an application to the regulatory body, and they will be clearly identified to the public through the bet.ar domain name.

Some provinces such as Río Negro and Entre Ríos have already officially announced the use of the generic domain name for online gambling sites under their jurisdictions. The city of Buenos Aires has recently followed suit.

Members of ALEA’s Information Technology Commission will now seek spread use of the domain through the country to make its implementation effective.

In other news from Argentina, the National Congress approved an increase in online gambling tax this week.
