Allywn to double chances of winning UK National Lottery in major overhaul of prize structure

Allwyn will introduce dual Lotto draws for the UK National Lottery in June.

UK.- Allwyn UK has announced major changes to the National Lottery, forecasting that the number of new millionaires created will more than double. From June 7, a redesigned Lotto format will introduce two consecutive draws, doubling the chances of winning a jackpot.

The revised structure improves the overall odds from one-in-9.3 to one-in-4.9. The ticket price will remain at £2, thus it seems that the new structure is being introduced as an alternative to Allwyn’s previous pledge of reducing the cost back to the original £1 charge.

Jackpots will start at £2m and will roll over up to five times before triggering a must-be-won draw. Players may win in either or both of the dual draws. The bonus ball system will still be used: players must match all six numbers to claim the jackpot or five numbers plus the Bonus Ball for a fixed £1m prize.

Later in the summer, Allwyn plans to introduce a UK version of Powerball, which will be the first time the global jackpot game has been offered outside the United States. Priced at £4 per line, the game will feature uncapped jackpots starting at roughly £12m, with top prizes paid out over 30 years.

Tickets will be available online or in store on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, with the draws then happening around 4am the next morning on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from the Powerball studio in Florida.

The company projects that Powerball alone will contribute an additional £1bn to good causes in the UK over its first five years. This should help the operator’s long-term ambition of doubling weekly contributions to £60m by 2034.

These launches follow the migration of the National Lottery to a new operating system in 2024. As part of its retail upgrade, Allwyn began rolling out Wave lottery terminals in August last year, replacing legacy Altura machines nationwide.

Andria Vidler, CEO of Allwyn UK, said: “We are delivering on our promise to bring more games, more entertainment and more innovation to the National Lottery. Lotto has always been the best game to play if you want to become a millionaire. Our new format gives players two chances of winning £1m-plus for the same £2, creating hundreds more millionaires every year. And with its transformative jackpots, we’re certain that our UK-specific version of Powerball will capture the public’s imagination.”
