Zambia Revenue Authority flags June tax obligations for betting sector
Monthly notice lists gaming and betting among tax categories due on June 14, as operators navigate an expanding levy framework.
Zambia.- The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has reminded taxpayers of their obligations ahead of the June 14 deadline, with presumptive tax on gaming and betting among the payments listed as due this month.
The compliance notice outlines several tax categories due on June 14, including gaming and betting alongside turnover tax, withholding tax, rental income tax, tourism levy and Advanced Income Tax (AIT).
The notice comes as Zambia’s regulated gambling industry operates under an expanding framework of taxes and levies. The Betting Levy Act No. 27 of 2025, which came into force on January 1, 2026, introduced a 5 per cent levy on deposits made into customer gaming accounts and a further 5 per cent levy on withdrawals.
Gaming and betting operators are also subject to a 10 per cent excise duty on betting stakes introduced under the Customs and Excise (Amendment) Act No. 11 of 2025. The measure previously faced opposition from parts of the industry. In 2025, operators including BetPawa and Betway challenged it in court, arguing it would have a significant financial impact on their businesses. The Constitutional Court subsequently dismissed the application.
