Uganda regulator destroys 8,714 illegal gaming machines in five months
The board pledged to continue enforcement activities against illegal gaming operations nationwide.
Uganda.- Uganda’s National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has reported destroying 8,714 illegal gaming machines during enforcement operations conducted over the past five months across Kampala Metropolitan, Greater Kampala, Northern, Eastern and Western regions.
The latest seizures bring the total number of illegal gaming machines destroyed by the regulator to 11,950, according to figures released by the board.
The NLGRB said the crackdown forms part of its ongoing efforts to eliminate unlicensed gambling activities, protect players from the risks associated with unregulated gaming, and promote a safe, fair and responsible gambling environment across the country.
Illegal gaming machines operate outside the regulatory framework and often fail to meet standards designed to ensure fairness, responsible gambling measures and consumer protection. Such machines may also facilitate underage gambling, evade tax obligations and deprive players of legal avenues for dispute resolution.
The regulator noted that unlicensed operators undermine the integrity of Uganda’s gaming industry and create risks for consumers by offering gambling products without adequate oversight.
The enforcement campaign aligns with the NLGRB’s broader mandate to regulate the country’s lotteries and gaming sector, ensure compliance with licensing requirements and strengthen public confidence in the industry.
The board reiterated that player protection remains a priority and pledged to continue enforcement activities against illegal gaming operations nationwide.
