Tanzania hosts Kenya lottery delegation to strengthen governance ties

The Gaming Board of Tanzania hosted Kenya’s National Lottery Board for a knowledge-sharing session on governance, regulation and oversight of national lottery operations. 

Tanzania.- Tanzania hosted a Kenyan National Lottery Board delegation for high-level discussions on lottery governance and regulation, with the two institutions exchanging best practices to strengthen transparency, accountability and public confidence. 

The Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT), led by Board Chairman Ambassador Modest Mero, hosted what it described as the first learning session for a delegation from Kenya’s National Lottery Board (NLB), headed by Board Chairperson Dr. Farida Karoney, according to a statement published by the regulator. 

Held in Dar es Salaam, the session provided an opportunity for the two regulators to exchange experiences and best practices on the governance, regulation and oversight of national lottery operations. Discussions covered regulatory frameworks, operational systems and approaches aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and public trust

The engagement highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and institutional learning in strengthening national lottery operations and enhancing their contribution to socio-economic development. 

The Kenyan delegation indicated that the discussions extended beyond governance and regulation to include lottery operations, technology oversight, accountability frameworks, compliance and public benefit management. 

Jackie Tonui, a member of the Kenyan delegation, said the engagement focused on “governance, lottery operations, technology oversight, accountability frameworks, compliance, and public benefit management.” Tonui described these as “critical areas as Kenya progresses towards operationalising the National Lottery.” 

Reflecting on the broader significance of the visit, Tonui said: “Successful national lotteries are built on strong governance, public trust, operational integrity, and meaningful public impact.”
