Singida Black Stars clear Nigerian goalkeeper Obasogie of match‑fixing allegations

Singida Black Stars confirmed that their review found no evidence linking Obasogie’s performance to deliberate match manipulation or gambling influence.

Tanzania.- Nigerian international goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been officially cleared of all match‑fixing and gambling allegations by Tanzanian Premier League club Singida Black Stars SC, the club confirmed on Saturday.

Obasogie was suspended by the club on February 27 while its disciplinary committee investigated concerns over a series of errors in recent matches, including fixtures in the CAF Confederation Cup and the NBC Premier League.

In a statement issued by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Kassano, Singida Black Stars confirmed that their review found no evidence linking Obasogie’s performance to deliberate match manipulation or gambling influence. The club noted that the actions which prompted the probe were simply technical errors common in competitive play.

The statement read: “After reviewing the incidents, taking the player’s defence into account and receiving clarification from the club’s management, it has been determined that there is no evidence of match‑fixing or gambling.”

The initial three‑month suspension has been fully rescinded, and Obasogie has been reinstated to the first‑team squad. He has apologised for the concerns his performances generated and pledged to work on improving his form.

Obasogie, 26, joined Singida Black Stars in 2025 from Ethiopian club Fasil Kenema and has represented Nigeria, including at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where the team won bronze.

The case underscores growing sensitivity around betting and match integrity in African football, where allegations of manipulation can have serious reputational and regulatory consequences for players and clubs.

With his name cleared, Obasogie returns to goal for Singida Black Stars as the club pursues success in domestic and continental competitions, with focus now on his consistency and impact for the rest of the season.
