Nigeria goalkeeper suspended over match-fixing probe

The suspension bars Amas Obasogie from all club-related activities for 90 days as the Disciplinary Committee reviews evidence and the circumstances surrounding the alleged betting-related conduct.

Nigeria.- Nigeria international goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been suspended for three months by Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars SC over allegations of match-fixing. Obasogie was instructed to step aside from all football-related duties pending the outcome of a probe into the claims of match manipulation.

The club announced the disciplinary action on Friday in an official statement published via its X account and the CEO’s office. However, it did not disclose which matches or incidents triggered the investigation into the player.

The suspension bars Obasogie from all club-related activities for 90 days as the Disciplinary Committee reviews evidence and the circumstances surrounding the alleged betting-related conduct. No formal charges have been made public and neither the player nor the club has disclosed specific matches or incidents under review.

Obasogie, 26, joined Singida Black Stars SC after leaving Ethiopian club Fasil Kenema and has been a regular starter in the Tanzanian top flight. He has also been involved with Nigeria’s national team, most notably as part of the squad that finished third at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.

Singida Black Stars’ announcement emphasised that the suspension is a precautionary measure to facilitate due process and uphold competitive integrity, rather than a declaration of guilt. The club reminded all players and staff to observe discipline, accountability and respect for the sport.
