The South African casino operator’s Festival of Giving initiative saw two families living near Sun City receive environmentally sustainable homes.

South Africa.- South African casino and resort operator Sun International has handed over two environmentally sustainable homes to families living in communities surrounding Sun City Resort as part of its community outreach programme.

In a statement issued on July 31, Sun International said that, as part of its Mandela Day Festival of Giving initiative, two families had received the keys to their new homes through a project that brought together government, business partners, employees and local community members.

Sun City Resort general manager Brett Hoppe said the initiative reflected the broader purpose of Mandela Day by creating opportunities that extend beyond a single day of service.

Hoppe said: “Mandela Day reminds us that even small acts of service can have a lasting impact. For these families, a home offers stability, security and a foundation for the future. We are incredibly proud of the employees, partners and community members who have come together to make this possible.”

The homes were built in partnership with the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), the Department of Human Settlements and a network of partners.

Each home includes environmentally sustainable features, including solar geysers, rainwater harvesting systems and household food gardens, helping to reduce household costs while promoting long-term resilience and self-sufficiency.

The initiative forms part of Sun International’s Festival of Giving programme, through which the gaming and hospitality group supports community development projects in areas surrounding its resorts and gaming operations.
