NLGRB cracks down on illegal gaming across Kampala metropolitan areas

The operations were part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance with the Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016.

Uganda.- The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board has seized 12 unlicensed gaming machines and closed 15 illegal gaming premises following raids across multiple Kampala Metropolitan policing (KMP) areas, including Nakulabye, Kawala, Bwaise, Namungona, Kasubi, Natete, Nalukolongo, Katwe, Kabusu and Ndeeba.

The regulatory body confirmed that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance with the Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016, which requires all gaming operations to be licensed and regulated. Under the Act, unlicensed gaming activities and the operation of illegal gaming devices are prohibited and subject to seizure and closure by enforcement teams.

The action follows similar raids in Kitintale that led to the confiscation of seven unfinished slot machines and other illegal gaming devices.

The Board emphasised that enforcement is necessary to protect the integrity of Uganda’s gaming market and ensure operators comply with licensing, tax and consumer safety requirements. Members of the public and licensed operators are urged to report illegal gaming activities to aid regulatory supervision.
