NLC hosts education workshop in Kareedouw to explain lottery regulation

South Africa.- The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) hosted an education and awareness workshop at Kagiso Community Hall in Kareedouw to inform civil society about the regulator’s role in South Africa’s gambling and lottery ecosystem.
The session took place on Wednesday, February 18, in Kareedouw, within the Koukamma Local Municipality in the Sarah Baartman District. The workshop was part of the NLC’s broader national education drive, aimed at clarifying the commission’s mandate and improving stakeholder understanding of the lottery sector.
As the statutory regulator of the South African National Lottery, sports pools and society lotteries, the NLC is mandated by the Lotteries Act to oversee all lottery operations, ensure compliance with legal requirements, protect players and direct funds to social causes. The session reinforced this regulatory function by explaining the legislative framework that governs lottery operations and how proceeds are distributed to “good cause” beneficiaries.
