NGB participates in 16th annual Gambling Regulators Africa Forum
Lungile Dukwana, acting CEO of the National Gambling Board, will present a keynote address on “The future of gambling regulation in South Africa”.
South Africa.- The National Gambling Board (NGB) of South Africa has announced that it will be participating in the 16th Annual Gambling Regulators Africa Forum (GRAF) conference, which kicks off today and will run until November 20 at the Sun City Resort in South Africa’s North-West Province. The board stated that its executive members will engage with regulators across Africa to strengthen and formulate collaborative strategies for responsible and effective gambling regulation.
Under the theme “Strengthening Gambling Regulation in Africa: A Collaborative Action Against Illegal Gambling and Promotion of Responsible Play in a Tech-Driven Era”, this year’s conference aims to improve gambling oversight in Africa, focusing on issues such as cross-border licensing, digital sports betting regulation, anti-money-laundering measures and responsible advertising.
Lungile Dukwana, acting CEO of the NGB, will deliver a keynote address on “The Future of Gambling Regulation in South Africa” while Yvonne Gwenhure, the board’s Senior Manager, Strategist for Organisational Performance, will participate as a panelist.
At the recently concluded Responsible Gambling Summit in Durban, Dukwana noted the need for enhanced responsible gambling measures, as South Africa experiences a boom in its online gambling market, which generated more than 60 per cent of the R75 billion (€3.7bn) GGR recorded in 2024/25 and has led to a 31 per cent problem gambling prevalence rate.
