National Gambling Board launches responsible gambling outreach in Mahikeng
These interventions are part of the NGB’s broader National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP).
South Africa.- The National Gambling Board (NGB) of South Africa has begun a series of community-focused interventions in the North West Province as part of its ongoing responsible gambling outreach programme. Announced on the Board’s official social media channels, the initiative aims to inform local residents about responsible gambling while fostering closer connections with Mahikeng communities.
The NGB’s programme, running from January 27 to 30, 2026, will engage diverse community groups at multiple sites in Mahikeng. It started with a student engagement at Mahikeng City College, followed by responsible gambling sessions for punters at Tic Tac Bets in Mahikeng.
Further activities include sessions at the Setlagoe Thusong Service Centre and a taxi rank activation in Mahikeng’s central business district, expanding the outreach beyond formal gambling venues.
These interventions are part of the NGB’s broader National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP), carried out in partnership with the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) and various provincial authorities. The programme combines education, research and treatment to address harmful gambling behaviours and connect individuals with free counselling and support services.
The NGB’s mandate, under the National Gambling Act, 2004, includes raising public awareness about gambling laws, the risks of compulsive gambling and the importance of licensed, regulated operators. The Board regularly conducts community outreach activities across the country to complement enforcement and regulatory oversight, with previous reports showing dozens of engagements in multiple provinces.
