The country’s esports and interactive gaming sector meet cultural heritage in a bold initiative targeting young audiences.

Morocco.- Morocco is placing gaming at the heart of its museums. The National Museum Foundation (FNM) has partnered with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Electronic Games (FRMJE) and the Rabat‑Salé‑Kénitra Regional League of Electronic Games to introduce video games into museum spaces, aiming to attract young visitors and make cultural heritage more interactive.

The initiative will equip museums with interactive exhibits, computers, PlayStation consoles and educational programs, allowing visitors to explore Moroccan history in a hands-on, engaging way.

The President of the National Museum Foundation, Mehdi Qotbi, said the signing of this agreement, which is of paramount importance to the Foundation, reflects a desire to attract youth to museums.

Qotbi said, according to Morocco World News: “This signing offers an opportunity to give young people a different kind of interest, to draw them closer to us, to the museums. And these young people represent the future generation. They are the ones who need to take ownership of their heritage.”

Interactive experiences at museums

Hicham El Khlifi, President of the FRMJE, represented the organisation, highlighting its role in bringing video games and interactive experiences into Moroccan museums.

FRMJE said: “This signing reflects the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI (King of Morocco), guiding and inspiring initiatives for Moroccan youth. As you know, the Moroccan Royal Federation of Electronic Games represents a large community of young people who are passionate about this discipline.”

The agreement emphasises youth engagement and digital culture, integrating esports and interactive games to complement traditional museum experiences. The League and FRMJE will provide technical support and develop games suited to each museum, while creating educational rooms equipped with digital tools.

By combining technology with heritage, Morocco aims to make museum visits more appealing and immersive for young people, offering them a new way to connect with the nation’s cultural history.
